Whenever vintage analog cameras come up in forums, the Rollei 35 is always a hot topic. It’s so beloved that they even released a new version in 2024! I recently got my hands on a black 35 SE. I’ll admit, I’m not the best at judging distances, so the zone focus system was a bit intimidating at first.

After finishing my first roll and seeing the results, my fear of zone focusing has definitely faded. Now, I totally get why this camera remains a favorite and still fetches a good price in the second-hand market. It’s perfectly pocketable yet feels solid and well-built. The way it fits in the hand and the placement of the controls just feels spot on.
It makes me wonder if the addition of autofocus and auto exposure in the new version is enhancing the shooting experience or taking away some of its charm.
